A NEW television drama, filmed at Walton Hall, telling the story of Chester Zoo debuts on Wednesday.

Our Zoo, a six part show for BBC One, was shot at the gardens earlier this year.

As revealed by the Warrington Guardian, part of the grounds of hall was transformed to a penguin enclosure and aviary.

Starring Ralf Little, it focuses on the life of George Mottershead who started the famous zoo.

Clr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “This is such good news for Warrington.

"We were delighted when we were asked if Walton Hall could be a part of this production and have been working with Big Talk Productions to make it all happen.

"It is great that one of our most popular and well-loved hall and gardens and one of our main tourist attractions now gets to be on a national stage and we hope it will encourage more people from far and wide to come and visit.

“I must also thank everyone who has been involved in this project and I can’t wait to sit down and watch the drama on Wednesday.”
