CHESHIRE Police has been shortlisted for an award in recognition for an environmentally friendly way of destroying cannabis plants.
The force has been recognised for reducing the annual £36,000 cost by using recycled materials, while waste has been disposed of using designated stations in Cheshire, and not by contractors.
It has also resulted in a reduction of carbon emissions.
Cheshire Police will now go the final of the British Institute of Facilities Management Awards in London in October.
It is being considered for the Sustainability and Environmental Impact Award.
Emma Marvell, head of facilities management at Cheshire Police, said: “We have managed to reduce carbon emissions by 22 per cent over the past five years, avoiding costs equivalent to £1.6 million. Helping to protect the environment is helping us to protect frontline policing."
