A MAN, who was caught carrying a lock knife while out drinking in Warrington town centre, was blasted for his ‘foolish’ behaviour.

Thomas Moore, of Sandy Lane, Orford, was arrested on July 26 after he refused to leave Bridge Street despite being told by police officers on a number of occasions to return home.

But the court heard how the 20-year-old, who has no previous convictions, ignored the repeated warnings from officers and continued to return to the area.

He was later arrested and was found in possession of the knife.

The defence team claimed the knife had been left in his pocket by mistake after he had been using it to open beers earlier in the evening.

Moore pleaded guilty to being in possession of a bladed weapon in a public place and for failing to comply with the direction of a police officer.

Sentencing, District Judge Bridget Knight said: “You have no convictions until now been very foolish indeed. The police gave you a number of chances on that night and you did not take them.”

Moore was handed a 14 week curfew from 7pm to 7am at Halton Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 13 and must pay £60 victim surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs.
