THE Magic Numbers are to play an acoustic show in Warrington just days after the release of their new album.

Fans who pre-order the new CD, Alias, from Head record store in Golden Square will also have the chance to get their copy signed and be first in line to meet the band.

The Love Me Like You singers will be in store next Thursday, August 21, at about 11am for a half hour set showcasing new songs and favourites.

Their album and new single, E.N.D., both come out on Monday and are said to have a darker, more atmospheric sound.

Mercury Prize nominees The Magic Numbers are made up of two pairs of brothers and sisters, Romeo and Michele Stodart and Angela and Sean Gannon, from Hanwell, west London.

The quartet had the most success with their debut self-titled album which reached number seven in the charts in 2005 and went double platinum.

Alias is the band’s fourth album and is likely to be considered their most diverse.

Some of the new songs like Thought I Wasn’t Ready have a string backdrop while others are guitar heavy and full of angst like Shot In The Dark, inspired by Neil Young’s work with Crazy Horse.

Dave Rafter, store manager at Head Warrington, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome The Magic Numbers into our store to play some songs from the new album and hopefully some of their classics too.

“We love having artists in the store playing live like we have done on many occasions since we opened last year, so having the band here to perform will go down well with the fans I’m sure.”

- The Magic Numbers’ acoustic show in Warrington will be followed by a 12-date tour in September. They will perform at Manchester Academy 2 on Friday, September 12.
