TO achieve a 100 per cent attendance record throughout your high school career is no easy feat.

But Sophie Sankey from Woolston managed to fend off those unpredictable sickness bugs and the temptation to have a day off school.

The 16-year-old, who never missed a single lesson in the five years she attended Cardinal Newman High School, said: “My mum and dad never really miss a day at work so this made me more determined to go to school each day.

“I wanted to make sure I did well at school so I didn’t want to miss any classes.”

This is not the first time Sophie has been praised for her high attendance record as she also never missed a day of school in year four and year five while at St Peter’s Catholic Primary.

Sophie’s mum Julie said: “It has been a tough few years for the family and for Sophie to get out of bed each morning with all this going on has not been easy. I am so proud of her.”

After sitting her GCSEs earlier this year, Sophie, who hopes to attended Cartmel College or Priestley College in September, has a nervous week-long wait to find out if her hard work has paid off.
