THE head teacher of St Andrew's Primary School in Orford has resigned three months after being suspended from the role.
Warrington Borough Council has confirmed Keith Cahillane has resigned from the head teacher post for 'health and personal reasons'.
It would not comment on the reason for Mr Cahillane's 'suspension without prejudice' in May.
A spokesman for the council said: “M Cahillane has, for health and personal reasons, stepped down from his role as head teacher of St Andrew's CE Primary School to pursue his teaching career nearer to home.
“In the meantime Mrs McKinnon will continue as acting head teacher.
“Governors will undertake a recruitment process in the autumn term to find a permanent replacement.”
After being contacted by the Warrington Guardian, Mr Cahillane said he could not comment on the allegation behind his suspension.
He said: “I was very proud to be head teacher of St Andrew's over the last three years, particularly of working with such wonderful parents and children.”
Parents at the school on Mardale Avenue reacted angrily to not being informed of the suspension by the council in May.
They were told of the suspension in a letter following a report in the Warrington Guardian.
Many said they were upset about not being told, but backed Mr Cahillane and called him a 'good head teacher'.
