POLICE have confirmed they are investigating an assault allegation at a hospital in the town which provides specialist services for brain injury and autistic spectrum conditions.

A spokesman said they were currently looking into claims a patient was assaulted while he was at St Mary’s Hospital on Floyd Drive on July 8.

A hospital spokesman confirmed a member of staff has been suspended from duty and they were co-operating fully with the police investigation.

A CQC spokesman said they were aware of the allegations and would be working closely with Warrington Borough Council, local commissioners and the police during the investigation.

He added: “We continue to monitor this service carefully to ensure that patients are safe and that their needs are being met.”

A council spokesman added they always take any complaints regarding patient care very seriously but it would be inappropriate to comment further while the police investigation took place.
