WARRINGTON Town Hall has marked the centenary of the start of the First World War by renaming a room.

Mayor of Warrington, Clr Ted Finnegan, opened the World War One Remembrance Room on Monday morning.

And he was joined by leader Clr Terry O’Neill, deputy leader, Clr Mike Hannon, and chief executive Steven Broomhead.

Clr Finnegan: “As a council, we have thought long and hard about a fitting tribute that will leave a lasting legacy in Warrington.

“The Town Hall is and will always remain at the centre of our town – the place where the good people of Warrington flock at times of trouble and celebration.

“It is only right then that we rename this committee room.

“From today it will be officially known as the World War One Remembrance Room.”

The council is also inviting residents to take part in the national ‘Lights Out’ commemoration this evening by leaving only one light or candle on between 10 and 11pm.
