A WARRINGTON Collegiate student has already started building a promising future after being selected for the prestigious cadet programme with Laing O’Rourke.

Tom Heron, aged 17, had to undergo a rigourous selection process before he was offered the place on the course in Manchester.

He said: “I’m absolutely ecstatic, this is an amazing opportunity with such a fantastic company.

“There were over four hundred applicants for the cadet programme but only a few of us were awarded a place. I really enjoyed the challenge.”

As part of the cadet programme, Tom, who studied studying construction and the built environment at Warrington Collegiate, will be sponsored through a degree at Liverpool John Moores University where he will study part-time.

Lecturer Rob Holmes said: “Tom is an excellent example of our BTEC extended diploma in construction providing the technical route to university.

“He will join a growing number of talented alumni who have been successful in progressing to university to study for a degree as the starting point of a successful career.”

Tom added: “My family is really pleased for me and my tutors at college have supported and encouraged me throughout the selection process.

“The cadet programme is a fantastic way to start the next stage of my career.”
