A PIECE of the town’s sporting heritage is up for grabs this Saturday.

And the Warrington Guardian’s own historic building The Academy was among the first to get a piece of the Wilderspool pitch planted in its grounds.

The Wolves Foundation has dug up 1935 pieces of Wilderspool turf representing the numbers of games played and plan to plant around the town, remembering and reviving memories.

This Saturday 500 pieces will be available as part of the One Community Day being held at The Halliwell Jones Stadium for supporters to collect.

The Jack Fish corner will be open to the public from 11am to view the timeline and collect a piece of history and certificate of authenticity.

The day will see the Rugby League Management Board launch its vision for the future, while youngsters from ages seven to 10 take part in rugby festival on the pitch.
