HELENA Housing is set to build 160 new homes in the town as part of a £6.9m affordable housing deal for the region.

The St Helens based housing association will build the homes after receiving money from the government’s Homes and Communities Agency.

Of the total 119 will be for low cost rent. The remaining 41 homes will be offered for sale through a range of options including shared ownership and shared equity.

Any profits from sales will be used to subsidise the development of more affordable housing.

Rob Young, chief executive, said: “This is tremendous news. Helena Partnerships is committed to the provision of much needed affordable housing and this funding will help us achieve our goal.”

Helena, who is a development partner for Warrington Borough Council, will build them in four areas in the town and comes after developing homes at Waterway Park, Latchford.

Helena is also building 37 new homes and apartments at Howley Quay, the site of former iconic nightclub The Mississippi Showboat.

Rob adds: “The creation of new homes by Helena not only fulfils a regional need, it helps drive regeneration, creates jobs and stimulates the local economy. Working alongside Warrington Borough Council, this funding will deliver positive impact that we’re thrilled to be part of.”
