WARRINGTON North MP has decided to step down from her role on the shadow front bench.

She told leader Ed Miliband earlier this month, but the decision was announced today, Tuesday.

The 59-year-old had been a shadow home office minister since October, and had served as a shadow local Government minister.

She was in the whips office when Labour was last in Government and was a former vice chamberlain.

The MP will stand again for the Warrington North constituency in 2015 where she will defend a 6,771 majority.

She told the Warrington Guardian: “I have greatly enjoyed my front bench roles but I have found that I was spending more and more time out of the constituency and I have always said Warrington North would be my first priority.

“I am very flattered that both Ed and Yvette asked me to reconsider and stay on however I want to be able to devote my time to the constituency and to be free to speak on issues like HS2 and fracking in a way that you cannot do on the front bench.“
