Man fined followed Golden Square optician row

Warrington Guardian: Dad fined followed Golden Square row Dad fined followed Golden Square row

A DAD has been fined in court after shouting abuse at Vision Express staff in a row over contact lenses.

Barry Dilworth, of Brambling Way, Lowton, screamed at an optometrist at the store in Golden Square as he was unhappy at the service.

The 52-year-old then burst into a consultation room to confront the optometrist, who had gone to see another customer, and demanded an apology.

Two female employees were reduced to tears by the rant, which happened at 2.40pm on April 6, this year.

Cheshire Police were called and Dilworth was visited at home by PC Graham Davies, of Warrington Town Centre NPU.

He was summoned to Halton Magistrates Court last month, when he pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour.

The defendant was told to pay £565 in fines, costs and compensation.

having worked in shops in my youth I cannot imagine how bad I must be to make a customer behave this way. I too have recently encountered **** ignorant service.

I will not use vision express if they ignore customers and then prosecute those that complain.

I think this report shows them in as much a bad light as the customer

I'm probably guessing because the customer ran out of contact lenses and his specification was out of date which then means the customer can no longer buy any lenses until they have an aftercare appointment, or they just had no lenses left. I worked in an opticians for years and this used to happen all the time. The amount of abuse, name calling and rants I've had to stand and take because of contact lenses. I just feel sorry for the staff that had to stand there and take that because people can't keep on top of their supply of lenses or don't bother to turn up to appointments.

sounds like a bit more than a complaint - he was fined for threatening behavior, I imagine it was a very unpleasant experience for staff and customers in the store rather than a disgruntled customer. For the shop to call the police it would have to be extreme - then the police didn't just let it drop, then the CPS decided to prosecute, then the guy plead guilty? I have worked in retail and have seen and heard a few people make all sorts of threats you wouldn't believe - not everyone is reasonable, most are but you get the odd one.
