THE coach of an amateur football team says the club is ‘in limbo’ as issues with their changing rooms on Morley Common creep into another season.

Lomax FC, who play in division one of the Warrington District League, was left without changing facilities last September after vandals damaged the roof of the changing rooms at the Lower Walton site.

As a result, the club was forced to play the majority of last season’s fixtures away from home – costing them hundreds of pounds on transport.

The club also refused to pay the £450 pitch fees to the council after their promise to help out, along with help from Liverpool County FA, failed to be fulfilled.

Penketh United and Moore United, who also used to play on Morley Common, have since left to play on other pitches in the town.

But Peter Brown, manager of Lomax FC, who are based at the Crown and Cushion pub in Penketh, is reluctant to move from the site’s excellent quality of pitch.

He said: “I believe it is one of, if not the best pitch in the area and no other pitches are really suitable for us.

“The help we were promised has just been pushed back and back and it seems to have hit a wall.

“We are in limbo going into the new season as we are supposed to tell the Warrington District League where we will be playing our home games, but we just don’t know.”

A council spokesperson said: “Work to replace the vandalised roof on the Morley Common changing rooms and to upgrade the shower facilities are programmed to be completed by the end of September 2014.

“In the meantime, arrangements will be made to accommodate the first home fixtures at another venue until the refurbishment is complete.”
