AFTER running late on her wedding day, the main thing for a Fearnhead woman celebrating 60 years of marriage was turning up on time.
Ron and Lorna Percival, of Dounrey Close, today, Thursday, mark their diamond wedding anniversary.
Their wedding on July 10,1954, at Sankey Bridges Methodist Church, happened ‘in the nick of time’, after traffic meant Lorna was delayed.
While working as a secretary with British Road Services, Lorna met Ron at a dance studio, when their long romance began.
The couple have three children, although son Ian died aged 16 months, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
When not spending time together in their respective roles at Risley Methodist Church, Lorna enjoys flower arranging and Sudoku.
Ron, a former magistrates, was also a rugby league referee for many years, once helping to officiate a game at Wembley.
They are celebrating the anniversary by having lunch with family and friends.
