OVERFLOWING bins could be on the cards for some residents in Warrington after the council confirmed that bins will not be collected on Thursday.

Bin collection services will grind to a halt in the town as thousands of workers stage a mass walkout following a series of bitter disputes with the Government over pay, pensions and workloads.

Firefighters from the Fire Brigades Union, civil servants in the Public and Commercial Services union, council and school support workers in the GMB and Unison, and members of the National Union of Teachers have already confirmed they will be taking part in the strike, which is poised to be the biggest co-ordinated public-sector strike in years.

In a statement, a council spokesman said: “If your bin is due to be collected on Thursday, July 10, it will not be collected.

“Black bin collections due on Thursday, July 10, will take place from Tuesday, July 15, and each subsequent day thereafter until all collections are completed.

“Residents should place their black bin at the normal collection point from 6.30am.

“The council will make arrangements for the black bin to be collected as soon as possible from Tuesday 15 July.

“Recycling collections of blue and green bins on Thursday 10 July will be suspended until the next scheduled collection of Thursday 24 July.”
