AN investigation is under way after a victim of sexual abuse reported an assault which is alleged to have happened around 40 years ago, when he was aged 12.

Officers are trying to trace a number of people who may have been visiting the Lymm Dam area in the summer of 1975.

Detectives are currently searching for a man believed to be called Bill, who was a keen fisherman, and visited the area and lived in a caravan park in Carrington in Manchester.

Detective constable Kevin Lloyd said: "We are asking people to cast their minds back to the mid to late 1970s and to contact us if they have any information, which could be relevant to our enquiries.

“We appreciate that it is difficult asking people to recall things from such a long time ago but any information − even the smallest amount − is useful when piecing together a case."

Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting crime reference number 0714062205 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
