A GLOBETROTTING couple from Appleton today celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary.

Tony and Audrey Farmer, of Lynwood Avenue, Appleton, said their vows on this day in 1954 at Christ Church in Latchford.

A gathering of around 50 people then made the trip over to Hill Cliffe Hotel, which no longer exists, for a party into the night.

The happy couple then jetted away to the Isle of Wight, where they spent 10 days on a honeymoon.

Sixty years down the line, Tony, aged 83, and Audrey, aged 81, are preparing to celebrate again with a family meal in Stockton Heath this weekend.

Again, they won’t be short of company as their children – Amanda, Linda and David, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren are all set to attend.

It has been an eventful 60 years for the duo, who have lived in several parts of the world, including Italy and Japan, with Tony’s work in the nuclear power industry.

And their secret to a long and happy marriage?

“We love doing things together, but we also don’t have to be joined at the waist all the time and do our own hobbies separately as well – I think that is a good thing,” said Tony.
