FIRE crews from Newton and Leigh were called to deal with a derelict building blaze in Burtonwood on Sunday.
A Cheshire Fire spokesman said firefighters from the Leigh station, based more than 7.5 miles away from the incident on Phipps Lane, were ‘geographically closest’ according to a new system used to allocate incidents.
Crews spent more than two hours tackling the flames at 3.40pm and used a high pressure fan to bring the fire under control.
