AN ALLEGED scam artist, who is accused of duping a pensioner out of £12,000, has denied any wrongdoing.
Barkley John Cossins-Price, of Worsley Avenue, Latchford, pleaded not guilty at Gloucester Crown court on Friday to fraudulently claiming he would use the money to buy the lease of a Welsh gold mine.
The 39-year-old allegedly made a false representation in order to make a gain for himself by saying that £12,000 was required for him to gain the lease between October 1 and November 2, 2011.
Judge Jamie Tabor QC bailed him pending a trial which is listed to start on Jan 5.
Matthew Harbinson, defending, said: "He acknowledges that while he did not at the time negotiate the deal for the lease he intended to get it. He says that although his representations at the time were incorrect they were not dishonest."
