A POLICEWOMAN who had a stroke while on her honeymoon is running 52 miles - in six days.

Stockton Heath bobby Emma Pitt, aged 39, suddenly fell ill just one week into her dream holiday in Malaysia in 2009.

She woke in the night with a strange sensation in her head.

As the pain developed in her forehead, she lost strength in her arms, her speech became slurred and she realised she could no longer walk.

Emma said: “One day I was perfectly fine and hours later I was in hospital.”

She flew home three weeks later and faced an arduous recuperation.

She said: “It left me with depression, panic attacks and anxiety which was another battle in itself.

“I lost my confidence and shied away from friends. I remember feeling in a daze.”

Then one day on TV she saw a 26-year-old mum with two young children left severely disabled by a stroke.

Emma, from Runcorn, said: “It made me understand what could have happened. It was a turning point.”

Now, five years later, she has made a remarkable recovery and will join 300 entrants on the BTR tour of Merseyside, running 52 miles from July 6-12 for the Stroke Association.

Emma, who joined the police 16 years ago and now patrols Stockton Heath, said: “I absolutely love running. It keeps you motivated. I’ve run 11 half marathons. I’m now taking on my biggest challenge. I want to do something for a charity that means something to me.

“If I can inspire just one person like me who has had a stroke that everything will be OK, it will be worth it.”
