TREADING a new path on an old tradition were the thousands who turned out for Padgate and Woolston Walking Day.

This year’s event was the unofficial christening of the newly relaid road and with the warm weather it brought many spectators out to see the annual parade.

Schools and churches joined together for the ceremony and the event attracted bands from as far as Cadishead, St Helens and Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School in Latchford.
