A 24-YEAR-OLD drug mule, who agreed to smuggle in almost £2,000 worth of drugs to a music festival in Warrington, will not be sent to prison.

Becky Jewell, of Shottesbrook Green, Liverpool, was arrested after she was caught trying to sneak in a mixture of drugs, which she hid in her bra, to the Creamfields Festival on August 24.

The court heard how Jewell had drank almost a bottle of wine and a small amount of cocaine on the morning of the annual music festival in Daresbury before catching a bus with around 16 friends to the event.

Jewell attempted to enter the festival around 2.15pm but was stopped and searched by police who found 54 ecstasy tablets, 11 packages of ketamine weighing a total of 6.1g, one package containing three different drugs called BZP weighing 1.52g, 19 wraps weighing 12.6g and a further three packages weighing 1.86g of M-Cat.

She was also found with a separate bag of 20 mg of M-Cat, which she claimed was for personal use.

Jewell, who has no previous convictions, was arrested but later denied the drugs were hers and that she had agreed to smuggle them in for an acquaintance.

Speaking during the hearing, she said: “Ten minutes before we got there [the man] asked me to take the drugs and I said no but then he asked me again.

“Stupidly I agreed and said yes.”

She later added: “I have no idea why I said yes. I stupidly said yes and it was one of my biggest regrets to this day.”

Recorder Stuart Driver agreed that he could not be sure that the drugs were hers but did not accept that she was not offered a small amount of money in return for taking the drugs into the festival.

He added: “What you did, even by your own account was serious. You took drugs into a festival and you helped a dealer who was going to sell them to make a substantial profit.”

Jewell pleaded guilty to four counts of possession with intent to supply drugs and was sentenced to 12 months in prison, which was suspended for two years, at Warrington Crown Court on Friday.

She was also ordered to complete 70 hours of unpaid work.
