A GREAT Sankey couple are looking to give something back to the hospital that saved their daughter’s life.

Parents Lauren Blackledge and Adam Archbold said they could not thank Alder Hey doctors and nurses enough after their daughter Daisy Grace was born with two holes in her heart.

Mum Lauren to the eight-month-old tot said: “I burst into tears thanking the consultant for everything he had done but he looked at me as though ‘This is what I do everyday’.

“They probably don’t even remember us but we will never forget what they did and wanted to show our appreciation.

“It was mixed emotions as we were leaving as we knew there were still so many unwell babies on the ward that needed care which was the other reason we wanted to raise some money.”

The couple said they first noticed something was not right when Daisy was two weeks old and her breathing became more shallow and then later was sick after feeding and appeared to be crying in pain.

Doctors initially thought it was bronchiolitis before they discovered the tiny youngster had patent ductus arteriosus, an incredibly rare hole in the heart which affects only 1 in 100,000 babies.

The date for an operation was set the day after her christening which meant family members had to avoid getting to close or cuddling Daisy in case of any minor infection.

Lauren, aged 23, added: “It was such a stressful time and we were told there was a slight chance she could die on the operating table so when we were told they had been successful we were so relieved.

“The nurses and staff were all so amazing and always went the extra mile for us.”

The couple now hope to raise cash for the British Heart Foundation, Children’s Heart Foundation and Alder Hey with fundraisers including a quiz night on August 15.

Held at St Joseph’s on Meeting Lane in Penketh, the event will also see small businesses selling jewellery, cards and wedding stationery with all proceeds going to charity as well as a singer entertaining guests on the night.
