Green-fingered transformation at Golden Square

Warrington Guardian: Tommy Edwards at work Tommy Edwards at work

THE flowerbeds which line parts of Golden Square have been transformed as part of the shopping centre’s environmental programme.

The centre appointed St Helens based Tommy Edwards, aged 28, and his business Tuckers Trees and Turf, to replant the beds which line Midland Way after looking neglected.

They are now packed with beautiful blooms including lavender.

The old plants have been donated to Acorn Venture Arm before the beds were replanted, an organisation that supports children and adults with special needs and disabilities.

Ian Cox, general manager at Golden Square, said: “Replanting the flower beds has really brightened up the area, and we’re thrilled to be able to contribute to the local community in this way. We look forward to hearing what the public have to say about it too.

“We are committed to involving members of the community as much as possible, and having a local business, such as Tuckers Turf and Trees carry out the work for us was important.”

What about the mess thats been left on Knutsford Road and the state of Victoria Park, theres grass and weeds everywhere there are very few or no flowers or plants its a disgrace Warrington Borough Council. The landscape department is based there too and see it every day do they have no initiative?

We have a lovely entrance and wall along the road and it looks a mess, plus theres graffiti appearing in some areas.

Forget spending money on the town centre till all work is complete!

We have a young offenders institution up the road which is very often looking for opportunities for offenders to give something back. Why pay an external company for something which can be handled "for free" for the good of society ?

This was done by Golden Square not Warrington Borough Council on their own land. Golden Square are private and not associated with WBC
