THE T-shirts have been ironed, the trainers freshly laced and the pink tutus fluffed all in time for this year’s St Rocco’s Hospice Starlight Walk.

Tonight more than 1,000 women will be burning the midnight oil as they tackle the charity walk across the town.

This year’s event has the theme A Walk to Remember and for these walkers that is just what they intend to do.

Vanessa Donnelly, who was a poster girl for this year’s walk said: “I walked the Starlight Walk for the first time in 2013. I walked for my beloved granddad Eric Burns who had prostate cancer and spent his last few days and hours at the hospice.

“He was an inspirational man and St Rocco’s were fantastic with him. Everyone at St Rocco’s made us all feel so welcome - especially when all the family stayed by his bedside overnight.”

The Sunflowers will be walking in memory of Christine Ann Wright who was cared for by the hospice.

Vicky Delooze, from the team, said: “Christine was the most amazing kind and loving person you could have ever met.

“Myself, family and friends are taking part in the Starlight Walk to raise money for St Rocco's Hospice to thank them for looking after our Chris.”

And it was while dropping off her sponsorship from the 2012 walk that Karen Lawton also signed herself up as a volunteer.

“Last year I was lucky enough to be taken on as a volunteer receptionist which I absolutely love,” added Karen. “I’m so looking forward to the Starlight Walk this year and will be taking part with a team of friends - one of whom I haven’t seen since school, over 40 years ago.”

Walkers have a choice of tackling a fully marshalled six and a half mile route or a full 13 miles on the streets of Warrington starting and finishing at Orford Jubilee Hub with help from LiveWire.
