ORGANISERS hope the sun will shine on Saturday for this year’s Padgate Walking Day.

The popular family event, which usually see crowds line up to watch the parade down Padgate Lane, is due to start at 2.30pm.

Peter Edwards, chairman of the Padgate Walking Day committee, said: “We are expecting a massive turnout with ten churches, and nine Schools, walking together, with all their associated mums, tots, and parishioners, and with several marching and pipe bands leading the churches.

“The weather forecast looks good, and we’re praying for lots of sunshine to play on our parade.”

“We’re hoping for a bumper turn out, with perhaps 4.000 people watching.”

The walk will be lead by St Oswald’s Church, with St Bridget’s Church, who lead last year, bringing up the rear.

Road closures are set to be in place from 1.45pm, with spectators advised to arrive before then.

Warrington Borough Council will put signs in place to mark which roads are closed.

Cheshire Police will be on hand to supervise the event.
