THE North West TUC has called for action on pay as figures show all though unemployment has dropped pay growth has slowed too.

Pay growth slowed to 0.7 per cent compared to last month’s figure of 1.7 per cent and is below the rate of inflation at 1.8 per cent.

Lynn Collins, NWTUC regional secretary, said: “It’s great to see that more people are getting back into work and we hope that unemployment continues to fall.

“As important, is providing good quality jobs for people to move into – ones with good terms and conditions, guaranteed hours and a decent rate of pay. What we see from these figures is pay failing to keep up with what it costs workers to get to work, feed their families and pay their energy bills.”
