SHE may have just turned 104-years-old today but Emily Leonard still puts everyone else’s happiness before her own.

The mum of two lives by the motto to ‘try and help others in any way possible’ and now her family want to share how remarkable the woman they know and love is.

Emily, who moved into Holcroft Grange residential home in Culcheth six months ago, was born in Howley Warrington June 10, 1910.

In her 20s, she worked as a nanny to Canon Willis' children from Warrington Parish Church before relocating with the family to Gloucestershire.

It was here that she met her husband Cecil, marrying some time before the Second World War begun and, a short time later, giving birth to their first child, Tom Leonard.

During the early war years, the family moved back to Warrington where she aided the war effort by delivering bread for Tofts Bakery.

In 1945, Emily, who also worked as a teacher and a librarian in Grappenhall, gave birth to her daughter Kathryn Whitham.

Book lover Emily also has three grandchildren Andrew, who died aged 32, Stuart and Robbie and one great-grandson, Josh.

Her daughter Kathryn said: “She is a very independent person and always wants to help others much younger than her. She is never happier than when she is with her family and many friends.”

Until recently, the 104-year-old was a regular member of the congregation at St Wilfrid’s Parish Church in Grappenhall and has enjoyed a number of family holidays with a particular highlight being a trip to New York.
