HEALTH chiefs are looking for young blood after it was revealed the percentage of 17-24-year-old blood donors in Cheshire is lower than the national average.
NHS Blood and Transplant has released the figures at the start of National Blood Week to encourage more people across Cheshire to give blood at a time when donations are expected to be ‘disrupted’ as attention turns to the World Cup.
In Cheshire there are 3,081 donors aged between 17 to 24 which equates to 13 per cent of those who currently donate blood in the county. The national average is 14 per cent.
Grappenhall donor Mollie Ward, aged 17, has joined the campaign.
She added: “My brother started donating as soon as he reached 17.
“I was very proud of him and decided I would do the same.
“It is really rewarding and it is vital that future generations continue to donate.”
