IT really was a case of back to the shop floor for managers at Golden Square Shopping Centre.

The management team adopted a series of roles with front line staff to get a different view on how the centre operates.

During the week they swapped their regular schedules for those of the security, customer service, housekeeping, car park attendant, porter and maintenance staff.

They even looked the part by dressing in official uniforms and fully absorbed themselves in new roles and responsibilities.

Each manager experienced the role of someone they encounter daily, with the aim of giving them a thorough understanding of the workload, responsibilities and risks associated with each role.

Ian Cox, general manger at Golden Square, said: “The back to the floor initiative gave myself and the management team the opportunity to engage with staff at all levels and experience the front line tasks that enable us to provide efficient service delivery and good customer service.

“We relished the opportunity to gain an insight into the different roles and responsibilities that keep the centre operating. This campaign provided a unique chance for the team to enhance their leadership by gaining a practical understanding of how the centre works at every level.”
