SUPER slimmers helped to raise £400 for St Rocco’s Hospice by shedding more than 90 stone in just six weeks.

Members of two Slimming World groups in Grappenhall decided to shed pounds while gaining pounds for the hospice as part of the charity challenge.

Kerrie Brettle, the group leader, said: “Slimming World run a slim for good event every year, it’s a group challenge for every group in the country but instead of it being for a national charity each member gets to vote for their local cause they want to raise money for.

“Our group chose St Rocco’s Hospice by an overwhelming number because of the good work it does for families across the town.

“They had a number of options - they could give a donation or a individual sponsored slim or a group one saying they would lose a certain amount in the six weeks.”

The slimming groups, which meet at the Ex Serviceman’s Club, on Chester Road, on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings, worked hard together to lose a total of 90st 3lb over the period and raised £400.

“It worked out that the average person lost from 10lb to 14lb during the six weeks,” added 45-year-old Kerrie, of Windsor Drive, Grappenhall.

The charity aspect also worked wonders for slimmers by giving them a new impetus to lose weight.

Kerrie said: “People who have had a lot on can get focused by these kind of fundraisers and it gives them extra motivation to lose those pounds.”

The groups have been busy with more charity challenges including handing in 191 bags of unwanted clothes which no longer fit members to Cancer Research UK.
