SUNSHINE welcomed families as they flocked to Birchwood Carnival.

The community event celebrated its 30th anniversary with a Dig For Victory theme to mark the centenary of the First World War.

Hazel Findlay, community spokesman for Asda Birchwood, said: “With our trusty barrow of veg, we dressed for the occasion, joining many other groups who all looked fantastic.

“Following the parade, we then went around the carnival giving away fruit and veg snacks.
“Throughout the carnival there was a sense of fun and community that made it a real pleasure to be a part of. The weather was fantastic and made for a glorious day all round.”

The carnival parade at Birchwood Forest Park was led by the Karamba Samba Band.

There was also family entertainment including fairground rides and shows by the Shadow Quest Dog Display Team, Vale Royal Falconry, The Wire Gymnasts, Inspire School of Dance and music from singer Tara Westwood.
