UNION chiefs have been thanking residents for their support after more than 450 people signed their petition against changes to day cover in Warrington.

As reported in last week’s Warrington Guardian, the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) Unison branch has claimed bosses’ proposals will cut day cover by 55 hours a week in Warrington and could risk lives.

Dave Robb, Merseyside and Cheshire area convener for Unison, was joined by Warrington North MP Helen Jones on Saturday as well as council leader Terry O’Neill.

Mr Robb added: “People were disgusted when they heard about the proposed changes and couldn’t believe such an important resource was being taken away.

“On Sunday at one point in Cheshire there were 58 outstanding emergencies that crews were struggling to get to.

“I can’t thank the people of Warrington enough for signing the petition and taking the time to listen to us and we’re looking to hold another similar event fairly soon.”

NWAS bosses has said a ‘quality impact assessment’ would take place before any changes are made.
