TALENTED youngsters have the chance to win in two new award schemes aimed at those in a variety of arts.

Warrington Arts Council has set up one awards programme, supported by Warrington Rotary Club and Thelwall Morris Men and a donation by Clr Celia Jordan (LD - Stockton Heath), where those aged 14 to 16 on April 1 this year can win up to £200.

Awards will be given in the fields of music, art, creative writing and photography.

The second, also in association with Warrington Arts Council, is the Jane and Stephen Murphy Foundation which the Murphy family have endowed in memory of their grandparents.

Awards of up to £500 are available to students aged between 16 and 18 on April 1, 2014 in the fields of music, creative writing, dress design, painting and carving and more.

These awards are intended to help students in more disadvantaged areas of the town and are limited to the central wards of Fairfield and Howley, Bewsey and Whitecross, Latchford East and Latchford West, Orford, Poplars and Hulme, Poulton North and Poulton South.

But special cases from other parts of the town will be considered as well.

Applications for both awards are available by e-mail from mikemm@hotmail.co.uk and must be accompanied by at least one reference from either a teacher or an accredited private teacher who is not a family member.

Closing date for applications is noon on Wednesday, June 25.
