THE Warrington Wolves Foundation has been getting green-fingered to commemorate the First World War centenary.

Participants from the TRYHARD project decided to make their mark at Warrington Cemetery after learning about the Great War in the classroom.

The youngsters then visited Ryfields Retirement Village, where they were taught the basics of planting and caring for flowers.

With the help of funding from Sainsbury’s Church Street and O2 Think Big at Preston Brook, the group were able to get 1,800 flowers and gardening equipment for their mission.

The week-long project finally got underway on Monday, April 28 with more than 50 people attending a sun-drenched first day to help out.

The Wolves Foundation, along with help from the Cadets and Ryfields Retirement Village, will now tend to the graves on a regular basis to maintain their hard work.

All of the equipment purchased and used for the project will be donated to Sir Thomas Boteler High School’s Horticultural Club to be used for future projects.
