ARE your marks, get set, go for a new fundraising challenge hitting Warrington.

Victoria Park will be the setting for the first Warrington 5k run organised by Legacy Event Series and they are looking for people to sign up to run, jog or walk on the day.

Ged Swarbrick, from Legacy Events, said: “The Legacy Event Series is a series of running events where runners can enter any or all of the races, either for fun or to raise funds for their chosen good cause or charity.

“Legacy Events were established in 2011 and their unique approach enables runners and fundraisers to pass on 100 per cent of the funds raised to their cause, unlike other running event organisers who charge up to 80 per cent of the funds raised for organising the event.”

Organisers are hoping to build on this year’s success to create a bigger event next year with a variety of fun for all the family with a festival spirit.

And charities including the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace are those hoping to get people involved in the event, which takes place on Sunday, June 15.

Jonathan Levy said: “This is a really good opportunity to have fun and raise money for charity at the same time. By taking part in aid of the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, participants will be supporting the Peace Centre and the help and services we provide to many people including victims of terrorism, armed services veterans and vulnerable young people.

“We are the only UK charity which provides such a unique range of services for those affected by violent conflict, based here in Warrington. It is the support and generosity of our supporters that keeps us going and money raised from the Warrington 5k can help us make a significant difference to the positive impact we have on people’s lives.”
