THE council is urging residents to respects their neighbours by avoiding excessive noise during the summer.
As part of noise action week, which runs until Saturday, the council wants to raise awareness of the problems caused by noisy neighbours.
Professor Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the council, said: “Noise complaints to the council increase during the summer, mainly from parties or dogs being left outside who bark excessively.
“We know that the warm weather and world cup celebrations this summer will result in more outdoor gatherings but would appeal to residents to respect their neighbours and keep noise under control.
“We aren’t asking people to be silent but we want to use this week as an opportunity to talk about the impact noise can have on neighbours and let people know what they can do if they have concerns.”
