POLICE are appealing for information after a cross was stolen from St Mark’s Church in Dallam that had been there since it was built.
Rev Peter Marshall said the brass cross, and a brass candlestick, were stolen at some point during Sunday night, or in the early hours of Monday.
The theft was discovered when Maggie, the Reverend’s wife, went to the church on Longshaw Street on Monday.
Rev Marshall said the cross had been on a table in the church since it was built in the 1950s.
“It’s very annoying that someone has taken the cross,” he said.
“If anybody does come across it, we’d very much like it back.”
The cross is described as around 2ft tall, made of brass metal, and yellow in colour.
If anyone has any information or knows of the whereabouts of the items, call police on 101 quoting incident number 376 19/05/2014.
