THE council is supporting national deaf awareness week in a bid to promote the services available to people in Warrington with hearing loss.

The council’s sensory and telecare team has worked alongside partners at the Warrington Deaf Centre to provide equipment, services and support to the local deaf community.

The centre, on Wilson Patten Street, has an equipment display area, a regular social club and deaf history resources among other things.

Steve Reddy, operational director for adult services at the council, said: “Services to support people with hearing loss in Warrington have continued to go from strength to strength and the Deaf Centre is now a busy and vibrant hub and home to a wide range of organisations all promoting hearing loss services.

National deaf awareness week runs from Monday, May 19, to Sunday, May 25.
