THE wonder women of Warrington have smashed a fundraising target eight months ahead of schedule.

Warrington Wonder Women have raised thousands of pounds by getting fit and tackling fun runs at the same time.

Vic Royle founded the group in 2012 and this year decided to put the 100 members to work to run the world to help raise money for a cause close to her heart.

Her nephew is toddler Parker Royle who is battling cancer and she along with other members have seen first hand the work Alder Hey Children Hospital do.

The 34-year-old said: “The target for the year I set was to raise £12,500 because it would buy a family room at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

“We reached that at the end of April and we decided to close the Justgiving site because we wanted to see what was the next target.”

And since starting the challenge in January club numbers have swelled and they have outgrown their Wilderspool base with plans to move to a new space.

“The gym is too small for us so we are moving and we are creating a community hub,” added Vic. “It’s going to have two studios - one will be a main studio and one for people who aren’t as confident and may just be starting out.

“It’s going to have a fuel school for mums and children to come and learn about nutrition and we have a merchandising company who can produce any running gear.

“It’s going to be amazing.

“It’s a not for profit organisation and will have to be self funding then 50 per cent of profit will go to charity and the other 50 per cent will be reinvested in the gym and its members to pay for training as people have put a lot of time and effort in for free so far.

“We are providing something nobody else can provide an we are not doing it for profit.”

Once the new place is up and running they will be looking to reset the fundraising target and Vic hopes they can raise more money for Alder Hey and other charities.

“I’m really proud of them. How we have got to this target this quickly is phenomenal.”
