ST ROCCO’S Hospice has opened the doors to a new space for patients and their families.
Musician Stephen Hough was invited along to open the new patient and family lounge and quiet lounge on Friday.
The new unit was created thanks to a £295,000 grant from the Department for Health along with support from volunteers and businesses in the town who helped fund the furnishings of the new building as part of the hospice’s corporate challenge.
Chief executive officer Pam Massey said: "Having this new communal space for both patients, and their families, gives the opportunity for people to come together in a social and supportive manner, which enables and enhances care for patients and their families.
"New buildings alone don't make great care but providing a space that enables choice and support, together with expert care, lifts people's spirits in pursuit of excellent care".
