WESTBROOK residents should no longer have to endure slow internet speeds as more than 2,500 premises are able to upgrade to superfast fibre broadband.

As the £28.5m Connecting Cheshire’s rollout goes live, residents will have access to its new fibre-optic network, bringing speeds of up to 80 megabits per second.

Connecting Cheshire, a partnership between BT and Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Halton and Warrington Councils, aims to have made fibre broadband available to 80,000 homes and businesses by the time it is completed at the end of 2015.

Steve Park, managing director of Warrington & Co, said: “This is fantastic news for Warrington residents and a great milestone for the project.

“Fibre and enhanced connectivity is vital to secure and maintain growth for the economy and will complement our big regeneration plans.

“We’re thrilled the rollout is now ongoing and more areas are to come in the following months.”
