FROGHALL Lane and Crosfield Street will be closed to traffic from this morning for emergency electricity works.

Scottish Power has detected two major faults on high voltage cables on the two roads either side of its junction with Midland Way.

Froghall Lane will be closed from its junction with Bewsey Road to Midland Way and Crosfield Street in a northerly direction from Nicholson Street to Midland Way.

It is hoped that work will be completed before the weekend.

Diversion routes will be signed on site and the electronic signs will be used to advise motorists of the closures.

It really wouldn't make any difference and may well just make the traffic situation much worse, unless they reopen the Market Gate Junction and the adjacent roads so traffic can access Winwick Road, Dail Street and Lower Bridge Street.for their onward journeys.

I spent 1 hour and 45 mins stuck on the car park at Aldi was intending to shop there but a fellow motorist told me they had spent 1 hour and 30 mins trying to get off the car park I decided to give it a miss. The problem lay with traffic coming over the railway bridge wanting to turn right into Crossfield Street and finding it closed they then thought that trying to do a U turn would help - I was that frustated that I phoned 101 and reported the matter and asked for a PCSO to come and direct traffic after 45 mins of waiting I urged other drivers to do the same and they did to no avail - total **** up by the highways agency
