THE Mayor of Warrington Clr Peter Carey helped mark the Anzac Day service at Soldiers Corner in Warrington Cemetery.
The Mayor led the service by laying a wreath on behalf of the town, along with Australian Defence Staff representative, Squadron Leader Benjamin George.
Anzac stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps and the service commemorates the anniversary of Australian and New Zealand forces landing at Gallipoli during the First World War.
Soldiers from across the Commonwealth are buried at Soldiers' Corner, as Winwick Hospital was taken over as a military hospital during the war.
After the service the civic party and crowd gathered to watch a march past which included standard bearers from local service organisations and Cheshire Army Cadets.
