A PROJECT which helps deaf people can expand its work thanks to a charity grant.
The Warrington and District Society for Deaf People has been handed a £5,000 grant from Coalfields Community Grants programme.
The money will help to fund a part time project development worker to access the needs of deaf people in the town.
Warrington and District Society for Deaf People offers social and recreational facilities for the deaf and hard of hearing in the town and proves to be a lifeline for many.
The society’s chairman Peter Morley said: “We were really struggling to get the money together to invest in a part time project development worker who would allow us to promote and extend the range of services we offer.
“The proposed coordinator and information officer, along with a focus group, will make all the difference to those who are deaf and hard of hearing within our community.
“It is about more than just a social outlet; we will provide training and give work experience, which can have a lasting impact on our members and their families.”
Coalfields Community Grants is a fund which is managed by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust which supports coalfield communities.
