THE M6 northbound carriageway around the Thelwall Viaduct will be closed this evening.

The motorway will close from 10pm and will re-open by 5am on Thursday while the Highways Agency continues to work on the £2.5m maintenance project.

With work to replace bridge expansion joints on the southbound carriageway now complete, the project will now focus on the northbound carriageway.

A partial contraflow arrangement is being switched from the southbound carriageway to the northbound carriageway which will be completed overnight.

Motorists are being warned to check traffic and travel conditions before setting off on their journeys.

Diversion signs will be in place between junctions 20 and 21.
