POLICE in Warrington are warning against the dangers of stalking as part of a nationwide initiative.
National Stalking Awareness Day, takes place today, Thursday.
It focuses on stalking in the workplace, as the National Stalking Helpline says one in 20 victims are stalked by a colleague or ex-colleague.
In a quarter of cases, a stalker will appear at the victim′s workplace Stalking is defined as repeated and unwanted contact from someone in person, by post, or on social media, which leaves the victim feeling fearful or distressed.
Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Wenham, of Cheshire Police, said: "Stalking can have serious consequences. It can lead to people losing their jobs, it can cause extreme stress and, in many cases, put people at risk of harm. Being stalked is inevitably life changing, victims have to alter their everyday behavior in order to try and be free from the fear of their stalker.
"But it doesn′t have to be this way, victims of stalking are urged to come forward and report the issue to us.
