THE M6 will be closed to southbound traffic over the Thewall Viaduct tonight.

As part of the Highways Agency's £2.5 million maintenance project to replace expansion joints the south side of the motorway will be closed to vehicles from 10pm to 5am tomorrow morning.

With work to replace the joints on the southbound bridge complete the closure will allow crews to move the contraflow across to the northbound side.

The northbound side will then be closed to traffic tomorrow, Wednesday night from 10pm to 5am to finish putting the new contraflow in place for works to replace joints on the north side of the motorway.

Motorists will be redirected between the Woolston and Lymm junctions with clearly-signed diversions.
