Top 10 plans in the pipeline for Warrington

While there is plenty to proud of already, there is even more in the pipeline for the next decade.

1 New Market

Warrington Market is set for a new home. Work has already started (B and M have moved out of Time Square) ahead of the main buildings works. A temporary market will be built while the current one is demolished, before the new one opens on the current Boots site. With the existing building frontage on Bridge Street.

2 New Cinema

And that is not all for the Time Square site. As well as new council offices and restaurants, a town centre cinema could be built. Negotiations are ongoing.

3 Southern Gateway

The name may not mean much but get ready for changes on the area around the Mersey in Howley and Wilderspool. Wharf Street Industrial Estate is the first to be redeveloped but more exciting will be the plans for the old Wilderspool Stadium site

4 Omega

It has been 20 years in the discussion period but businesses are now open on the former RAF Burtonwood site. While Brakes is open now, Asda is currently building the biggest warehouse in Europe while a new road, linking to the Royal Mail site, will be ready to open by this time next year. Further down the line, expect homes, shops, hotels.

5 Stadium Quarter

The redevelopment of Winwick Street, near Central Station, has been a dream which is finally becoming reality. At the heart will be a new technical college - training the engineers of the future on land close to the station.

6 Chapelford

It may look complete but there are still hundreds of homes being built at the Great Sankey estate. And there could be a new railway station there too soon, with discussions well under way.

7 Warrington Hospital

Never get parked at the hospital? Well plans revealed earlier this year will see some of the older buildings demolished and extra car parking put in on the site.

8 William Beamont Collegiate Academy

The old Beamont High on Long Lane is the latest school to be redeveloped. Next to Orford Park and the new Future Tech School at Warrington Collegiate, it will become a 21st century hub for education in the town.

9 Alban Retail Park

The Winwick Road retail park is set to become even bigger. The old Fiat factory will be created into new shops. While over the road at the former Fordton Leisure Centre site will be new Aldi, Costa and pub.

10 Bank Park

The jewel in Warrington’s crown. Currently being transformed, there will be floodlight bowls greens, new paths and an ambition to turn it back into what it once was. A Proms in the Park event will be held there when work is complete in July.
